SmartRemote™ details

SmartRemote™ is a server application used for monitoring and maintaining kiosk terminals running SiteKiosk software (Basic Version or higher) from a remote location. Based on Microsoft .NET Framework, SmartRemote™ runs on Windows 2003 server in combination with Microsoft SQL database (see also system requirements).

There are two versions of SmartRemote™ available: The SmartRemote™ Application Service Provider (ASP) where customers access the service through a web browser by logging onto SmartRemoteT.net. The data and connections to client terminals are stored on the SMARTKIOSKS™ servers and leased on a 3-month or annual basis. The other version, SmartRemote™ Server (Personal and Business Edition), is licensed and offered as a one-time purchase of the software. This version allows you to set up a local server on your network, with all of the functions of SmartRemote™

Advantages of using SmartRemote™

Constant communication

SmartRemote™'s communication architecture provides constant communication between a SiteKiosk terminal and a SmartRemote™ server, even from behind firewalls. A terminal will establish a connection to the server at certain intervals and compare its data with the data stored on the server. While doing so, the terminal informs the server about its current status and receives new jobs from the server. SmartRemote™ can also monitor terminals that lack a permanent connection (dial-up) or have dynamic IP addresses.

Monitoring

To ensure a quick response to problems and guarantee the highest degree of availability for your terminals, the SmartRemote™ monitoring solution will automatically inform you about any problems, independent of your current location.

SmartRemote™ is equipped with an automatic notification system, which sends an alert by e-mail or SMS in the event of an error.

Secure Connection

The secure communication between client and server is established via an encrypted protocol similar to HTTP (TCP/port:8086). Communication is encrypted by a combination of RSA and AES (Rijndael) used for key exchange and symmetrical encryption, respectively. In addition, signatures are used to verify the identity of client machine and server.

Remote maintenance

Maintaining and updating a computer, such as transferring a file or rebooting the machine, does not usually take a long time. But if you are dealing with a hundred machines spread out over various locations, completing this task manually would take hours, if not days, as you would have to perform this process for every individual terminal.

SmartRemote™'s job management feature allows the user to define and execute a job function remotely in a matter of minutes. Users can define a job task and assign it to an individual machine, groups of machines or even of all of your machines at once. Using SmartRemote™, specific dates and times when particular jobs are to be executed can be set as a one-time task or scheduled on a recurring basis.

Multiple-language user interface

In addition to the option of setting an address and a time zone to each terminal, you can also assign a display language to each user. For example, a member of your team from New York can use the SmartRemote™ user interface in English, while another staff member from Amsterdam can log into the same SmartRemote™ account using the Dutch user interface.

At present, SmartRemote™ is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Dutch.
